Company History:
Seward Motor Freight can trace its origin back to the early 1940's when it was formed to haul freight between Omaha and Seward, Nebraska. After having had several owners through the years, Wayne and Joan Tanderup purchased and incorporated the business in 1969. When they purchased the business they had seven employees working for them.

The business continued to grow throughout the 1970's and they acquired long haul permitsfrom the I.C.C. to haul general commodities throughout the continental United States. In 1987, the company was granted contract authority. Throughout the 1980's several smaller carriers were acquired by Seward Motor Freight, Inc. expanding their base of operations and driver base.

Seward Motor Freight's Board of Directors include the major stockholders, Wayne and Joan Tanderup, with Wayne serving as Chairman of the Board and Joan as Corporate Secretary. Leroy Virus joined the firm in 1976 and was hired to work in "operations." He was promoted to Vice President and a stockholder in 1981 and now holds the title of Executive Vice President. Ron Niemoth was hired as the company's Comptroller in 1984 and was promoted to a stockholder in 1985 and Corporate Treasurer in 1986. Other officers include Dave Coufal as President, Joyce Helge as Vice President of Operations and Erich Helge as Vice President of Safety.

Seward Motor Freight moved to a new 6 1/2 acre office and fleet maintenance facility at I-80 and Highway 15 in 1985. In the summer of 1989, a two-story brick building was added onto the 1985 facility. The new addition houses the accounting, dispatch and billing departments and also the drivers' lounge. At this date, Seward Motor Freight operates 200 tractors and 400 trailers across the country. The company presently employs approximately 250 people from the Seward location and has a terminal and fleet maintenance facility in South Weber, Utah, and sales offices in Quincy, Illinois, and Columbus, Nebraska.

200 TRACTORS, nearly all of which are less than three years old, and we are increasing our fleet by three new tractors per month.

Driver Requirements:
All drivers must be at least 23 years old, have two years verifiable experience and a clear Motor Vehicle Record, must meet Department of Transportation requirements and be screened for alcohol and drugs. Our drivers have a reputation for being courteous, competent, and willing to give excellent customer service.

Formal Driver Education and Training Program:
Our driver education and training program include a three-day orientation and weekly driver safety/information meetings at both terminals that cover such topics as maintenance, cargo handling, defensive driving and accident prevention.

Student Driver Training Program:
Seward Motor Freight, Inc. will pay the tuition and books for any qualified student to attend an accepted truck driving school, providing that the student makes a commitment to work for the company following graduation. An additional minimum of six weeks over-the-road training with a certified trainer is then required before becoming eligible to be a driver for Seward Motor Freight.
