The Louisiana Motor Transport Association, Inc., founded in 1939, now represents approximately 400 truck, bus and related industry companies throughout

Louisiana and the nation. Our membership includes every type of motor carrier operating in Louisiana - regulated and exempt, intrastate and interstate, for-hire and private.

Over the past years, LMTA has vigorously fought to protect and defend the interests of the trucking industry in Baton Rouge and in Washington, D.C. For the past 64 years, LMTA has been recognized at the "voice of the trucking industry" in Louisiana and we intend to live up to that honor for many years to come.

What an interesting year it has been for us! During 2003 alone, LMTA has championed the cause of the trucking industry - protecting the industry from laws and regulations that could cost Louisiana trucking companies thousands of dollars!

Why LMTA?

Louisiana - LMTA has been the voice of the trucking industry in Louisiana since 1939. A private, non-profit trade association affiliated with the American Trucking Associations in Washington, D.C., the LMTA represents every type of motor carrier: private and for-hire, regulated and exempt, interstate and intrastate.

Legislative Affairs - You have full-time representation at the Louisiana Legislature whenever they are in session! During the 2003 Legislative Session, LMTA monitored and actively lobbied approximately 200 specific pieces of legislation that affected the trucking industry in Louisiana.

Governmental Affairs - We meet with various state and federal agencies that affect the operations of commercial motor vehicles on a regular basis to discuss issues and concerns of the industry. These agencies include the Louisiana Departments of Revenue & Taxation, Public Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Quality and the Public Service Commission. In the federal arena, this includes the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, etc.

Communication - One of our primary functions is to keep our members informed and prepared to meet the day-to-day challenges facing the trucking industry. We publish our weekly TRUCK TALK and LEGISLATIVE BULLETIN, our annual OPEN ROAD newsletter and several special bulletins to inform the trucking industry of important issues. We also use our "fax broadcast system" to reach our members with important information faster. To further our efforts of keeping the industry informed, the LMTA website is www.louisianatrucking.com.
