CRST Van Expedited Acquires Washington Specialized Carrier

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa-CRST Van Expedited, the nation's largest team carrier, has acquired Specialized Transport Services (STS) in Puyallup, Wash., a Seattle suburb. The 15-year-old company, which specializes in time-sensitive freight, has an operational presence in Seattle and Wichita, KS. CRST Van Expedited expects to maintain both locations.

"We are responding to the demand in the market by building our team and fleet size to increase our expedited capacity," said Jim Schommer, vice president/fleet operations, CRST Van Expedited. The acquisition allows CRST Van Expedited to build its driver base in the Northwest. "We were attracted to STS from a synergy standpoint. The company is running expedited teams and brings major accounts to the table, including Boeing."

STS handles AOG (Airplane on the Ground) freight for Boeing, shipping parts nonstop that are needed in order to get a grounded plane up and running at airports from Miami to New York to Los Angeles.

"We will continue to look at acquisitions that provide the team concept and match the freight that we have," said Schommer.

CRST Van Expedited, a company of CRST International, is the largest team operation in the nation, with a fleet of 1,600 and growing. CRST International has 3,500 employees nationwide and estimated revenues of $600 million for 2004.
