Coastal Transport, Inc., announced a pay increase that raises the average driver wage by 7% for all experience levels. Scheduled to take effect January 2, 2005, this is the second pay increase for the carrier in the past eight (8) months. This new wage will be applied to both the company’s regional and shorthaul pay scales.
Along with the higher pay, the company has increased the amount of its safety bonus. The enhanced safety bonus is expected to result in an additional $800 per year on average for safe drivers who qualify at Coastal Transport.
“The net of the driver wage increase and safety bonus increase is that we are seeing driver wage increases of $3000 to $5500 annually based on the driver’s position,” stated Harry Crabtree, Vice President of Safety, Capacity Development, and Human Resources.
In conjuction with the new pay package, Coastal Transport continues to identify additional dedicated lanes for the fleet.
“We understand the importance of hometime and believe the addition of dedicated lanes will fulfill this need. By getting our drivers home often and paying them in the top percentage of all pay scales in our industry, we believe we have a program that is second to none,” added Crabtree.
