Transport America Releases New Hours of Service Protection Plan
For Transport America drivers and contractors, the new Hours of Service guidelines are no threat to their ability to continue to run successful and make the money they need.
Transport America recently released detailed information regarding the company¹s new Hours of Service Protection Plan. Although many drivers are concerned with losing money once the new rules take place, Transport America remains optimistic and has already prepared new guidelines to support drivers and contractors once the new rules are implemented.
"We will continue with what we do which is take care of our drivers," said Steve Sichterman, Director of Human Resources. "We don¹t want the new rules to interfere with the well-being of our drivers and we are confident they will be satisfied with this new protection plan."
The new Driver¹s Compensation Guidelines include revisions in the following areas: loading/unloading, lumpers, boroughs pay, layover pay, city cartage, corridor entry, detention pay, and company/owner-operator pay.
For loading/unloading, drivers will receive a flat rate of $100, driver assist of $50. Upon meeting the layover criteria, layover pay is as follows: company drivers will receive $150 for 24 hours and contract drivers will receive $300 for 24 hours of layover. City cartage pay for hourly loads, line haul support, reposition trailers, and yard checks will be $16/hour for company drivers and $30/hour for contract drivers. Corridor entry pay will be $25 paid one time per move. The new guidelines for detention pay for company drivers will be $16/hour after two hours and $30/hour after two hours for contractors.
In addition, Transport America will be increasing driver pay in 2004. The company has taken all necessary actions to prepare for this new transition and anticipates these guidelines will allow drivers and contractors to remain successful and productive.
