Texas Cowboy Celebrates New Truck & Career at FFE

It’s an exciting day for Donald Hatfield. On Monday, November 6, he swings into the driver’s seat of a brand-new, $125,000 truck complete with APU. As he turns the key he shares his thoughts.

“It’s nice to get into a brand-new truck with all the bells and whistles,” said Hatfield. “It is just a wonderful day to me. I’m celebrating being this successful with FFE and I’m excited that they would even offer me this truck. That takes a lot of faith.”

Hatfield hails from “a little old place in Texas called Old Salem.” He’s been driving about 12 years, but says he’s been in the industry his whole life, off and on.

“I started real young, at 17, doing bobtail,” Hatfield said.

Down the road, Hatfield took a turn in construction and then worked as a heavy equipment operator.

As a driver, Hatfield says he’s fortunate to have no accidents, no tickets and always on-time delivery. At FFE he has completed three leases thus far. Hatfield says the Lord has blessed him away from the road as well. He has traveled to 15 countries, including England, Singapore and Amsterdam. As a youngster, he fought with golden gloves during 1976-1977 in Beaumont, Texas. He lost a fight at nationals, but could have gone to the Olympics.

In his spare time, Hatfield enjoys hunting and fishing, saying “I’m just an old cowboy from the South.”

“It helps you be a successful owner operator if you’re kind of handy with a wrench in your hand,” says Hatfield. It would seem that he is, as he is currently using his talents to build an old Chevy truck from the ground up.

Hatfield has this advice for fellow drivers. “The trucking industry needs good drivers and if you want to be successful and you want to make money and have someone on your side who cares, you need to come see FFE.”

The FFE Clean Slate Lease program offers drivers the opportunity to own a truck with no money down and the added benefit of a business support system. Owner Operators average $1.11 per mile and receive an annual incentive at the end of their first year.
