Steve Williams of Maverick Transportation Named Chairman of American Trucking AssociationsOn October 7th, 2004, Maverick Transportation’s Chairman and CEO, Steve Williams, was named Chairman of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) at their annual convention in Las Vegas. The first time a trucking executive from the state of Arkansas has held this position, Williams says he is eager to strengthen the trucking industry’s future. “I think many people see me as a lightning rod or as an agent of change that will ask the tough questions and be willing to be engaged in debate. We need to do a better job as an industry anticipating the challenges that we will face in the years ahead.”

The American Trucking Associations is an organization that represents and promotes the interests of the trucking industry throughout the country. To be named as Chairman of this large, national organization is one of the highest honors that a trucking executive can achieve.

Maverick’s President and COO Stephen Selig commented, “Not only is this an honor of prestige, this is also an honor of respect which Steve has earned throughout his life in the transportation industry.“

Coming for humble beginnings, Williams formed Maverick with one truck in 1980 with friend and co-worker Larry Leahy. While approaching the company’s 25th anniversary, Williams is now 100% owner of the largest privately held trucking company in Arkansas. While becoming a leader in the industry, Williams has served on various industry committees, including a three-term role as Chairman of the Arkansas Trucking Association.
