DANNY O’QUINN, JR. GETS FIFTH TOP TEN FINISH OF 2006 BY FINISHING NINETH AT MEMPHIS MOTORSPORTS PARK
Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the Barr-Nunn Transportation associate sponsored No. 50 Ford Fusion

MEMPHIS, TN (October 28, 2006) – Danny O’Quinn, Jr. has said in several interviews after his fifth place finish at Charlotte that he hoped the Barr-Nunn associate sponsored No. 50 team could carry that momentum into Memphis and that is exactly what they did!

Throughout practice on Friday O’Quinn, Jr. told his team that they had built him a good race car and that he was going to be fast, and fast he was. O’Quinn, Jr. started the race in 25th position, but quickly moved into the top 15 where he remained throughout the rest of the race.

When it came time for the team to make their first pit stop crew chief Drew Blickensderfer was hesitant to make any changes to the car. O’Quinn, Jr. radioed that it was getting loose up off the corners and Blickensderfer feared that it would only get worse if no changes were made. So, when he came down pit road on lap 48 the crew gave O’Quinn, Jr. four fresh tires, fuel and took a pound of air out of each of the rear tires.

O’Quinn, Jr. headed back out on the track gaining three positions and running 15th. Ten laps later he radioed to his team to let them know that the car was really good and that the number one priority from here on out was to save the brakes.

By lap 100 the field was working on the fourth caution of the day and O’Quinn, Jr. was making his second trip down pit road. Blickensderfer ordered four tires, fuel and another track bar adjustment for O’Quinn, Jr. When the green flag came back out on lap 103 the Barr-Nunn associate sponsored No. 50 Ford was in 11th place.

O’Quinn, Jr. continued to praise his team throughout the day at what a great job they had done preparing his car for the weekend and that he was very happy with the handling at that point.

The team made their final stop of the day with 43 laps on their tires. They took four fresh tires and fuel to help them really push for a good finish.

The wrecks continued throughout the rest of the 250 lap race and O’Quinn, Jr. steadily maintained 11th place.

When the caution came out for the final time on lap 246 a green white checker finish was inevitable. O’Quinn, Jr. was still in 11th place as the pack came out of turn three and headed for the checkered flag. As he rounded turn four the wrecking began. O’Quinn, Jr. was able to thread the needle and crossed the finish line in nineth place.

“It was another great race for the No. 50 team, said O’Quinn, Jr. “These guys built me a great race car and it showed. I hate that I qualified where I did, but the day turned out to be pretty good. Everybody did a great job in the pits and I got a lot of help from my spotter with missing all those wrecks out there today.”

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the associate sponsored Barr-Nunn No. 50 team will compete next in the O’Reilly Challenge at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday November 4th.
