Congratulations Sly Johnson Melton Truck Lines Driver of Month for August 2004

Secesvester “Sly” Johnson started driving in 1984 because members of his family were into trucking. From the very beginning, Sly has pulled nothing but flatbeds. He says, "I like to sleep too much and I have never been interested in bumping into docks, and dealing with lumpers." Sly advises drivers new to flatbed or who are interested in flatbed, "You have to make your mind up that you are going to work and be diligent."

Sly started with Melton in December 31, 1992, and has been here ever since. Initially, the exceptional equipment is what attracted him to Melton. Sly started out as a company driver and then purchased his first tractor at the end of 1999.

Since then, he has traded it in for a brand new Peterbilt. After 12 years, Sly says that he stays with Melton because he appreciates how President, Bob Peterson, and his family treat him. Bob gave him the chance to work at Melton, and Sly has always been treated with respect and kindness.

"Sly is easy going and very helpful. Sly tries to keep a good attitude, even when situations are trying," says Driver Manager, Tom Ledington. Belinda Crawley, Local Dispatch, says, "Sly always has a smile on his face, and can always make you laugh.

I know that when he is passing through Tulsa, or waiting to be dispatched that it's going to be a lively day." Most of all Sly is dependable and safe. If Sly accepts a load, it will be there…on time! Sly is a Melton Ambassador of the Road. He also has 12 years of safe driving and is about to reach 13 years. When he is not on the road, Sly enjoys cooking, as well as hunting in the winter months.
