Arrow Trucking puts heart & hands into community outreach programs

Tulsa, Okla. (September 15, 2006) -- Again this year, as every year, Arrow Trucking participated in the United Way’s annual campaign drive, reinforcing its position as one of the industry’s most caring companies.

“We kicked off the annual United Way campaign by being a part of the Day of Caring on September 8,” says Judy Craven, rate analyst at Arrow Trucking and head of the company’s Spirit Committee. “It’s such a wonderful way to give back to the community where we’re based.”

United Way of Tulsa distributed a list of organizations in need asking area companies to coordinate a volunteer force to help. The Arrow team chose the Resonance Center for Women where projects such as painting, yard work, and general repairs were needed. “We stayed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. painting the sunroom at the center. There were so many windows!” says Craven. “But the work is so satisfying. The 12 employees that worked that day were really able to see how United Way contributions of time and money work in the community.”

According to Betsy Waldrop, recruiting director for Arrow Trucking, the company’s employees are always willing to volunteer their time. “The team fills very quickly,” Waldrop says. “There are usually many more volunteers than slots so it has to be first come, first on the team.”

Waldrop says Arrow Trucking compensates volunteers their normal day’s wages for the time spent volunteering in the community.

In addition to their work on Day of Caring, Arrow employees volunteer as mentors for students at Park Elementary in Tulsa through United Way’s Going to Bat for Tulsa Kids program. “This school-based mentorship pairs caring adult role models with students for one hour per week,” Craven says. “Some of these children are so in need of positive influences! The wonderful people here at Arrow are just what many of these kids need.”
