Southern Cal Transport Hires New Recruiter, Plans West Coast Expansion

The addition of Joe Alvarez as the new driver recruiter for Southern Cal Transport brings plans for expansion and 50-100 new positions to the company’s Mira Loma, Calif., location.

A former driver manager and over-the-road trainer, Alvarez, bilingual, was born and raised in Southern California. He brings eight years of trucking industry experience to his new tasks at Southern Cal Transport.

“My ultimate goal as the new driver recruiter is to grow the company and establish a presence for Southern Cal Transport here in the West Coast,” said Alvarez. “We are looking to hire 50 team drivers in the immediate future to drive coast to coast. By the end of the year, we’re hoping to have hired an additional 100.”

Alvarez is seeking drivers with a minimum of six months experience and a Hazmat endorsement. “If they don’t have one, they will have 90 days to obtain one,” he said.

To accommodate new hires and growing business, Alvarez states the company has plans to expand its current facilities. “Eventually, we want to build a new terminal here,” he said.

Southern Cal Transport, headquartered in Birmingham, Ala, operates more than 400 tractors, out of three locations, employing several hundred single and team drivers. To meet customer needs, they offer two fleet divisions.

The Southern Cal Division offers team service across the nation, from the southeastern part of the United States to California. The Eagle Division offers solo service regionally in the south and east, from Florida to New England, as well as secondary service to Dallas, Texas, and various areas of Ohio and Oklahoma.
