Jacksonville, Florida (LSTR: NASDAQ) – Landstar System, Inc., a safety-first transportation capacity provider, announced three of its wholly-owned subsidiaries earned Logistics Management & Distribution Report 2002 Quest for Quality Awards for delivering outstanding transportation services.

For the 19th year, the magazine surveyed its readers to determine the best companies in transportation. Respondents ranked each carrier's performance in categories such as on-time performance, value, information technology, customer service, and equipment and operations. They also ranked each category by importance. Landstar scored high in both performance and in equipment and operations.

From an initial field of several hundred companies in 20 different categories, Landstar Logistics, Inc. was one of six readers honored in the Intermodal Marketing category; Landstar Ranger, Inc. and Landstar Inway, Inc., were two of three truckload carriers honored in the Industrial and Heavy Haul category.

“Landstar is synonymous with safe, reliable transportation services,” said Landstar President and COO Henry Gerkens. “It's gratifying to know our business capacity owners, agents and employees are once again recognized for consistent quality service.”

“This survey not only ranks carriers, but sets the bar for quality among all carriers, shippers and transportation providers whose goal is optimum performance throughout their supply chains,” said Peter Bradley, editor in chief of the magazine.

These are not the first Quest for Quality awards Landstar has earned. Two years ago, Landstar was the only carrier the magazine recognized in the Industrial and Heavy Haul division. Last year, Landstar drove away with awards in Intermodal Marketing, Industrial, and Heavy Haul categories. The results of this, the magazine's 19th Annual Quest for Quality survey are published in the August issue of Logistics Management and Distribution Report.
