DANNY O’QUINN, JR. HAS A RUN OF BAD LUCK AT CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. and the No. 50 Pennzoil Platinum & Associate Sponsored Barr-Nunn Transportation Ford Fusion

JOLIET, IL (July 8, 2006) – Danny O’Quinn, Jr. was looking to make a come back in Chicago after wrecking early in Daytona last weekend and putting the No. 50 Ford behind the wall. Although he did finish the race, O’Quinn, Jr. did not end up in the position he was hoping he would.

The problems began on Friday afternoon when O’Quinn, Jr. hit the outside wall during rookie practice. The No. 50 Pennzoil Platinum & Associate Sponsored Barr-Nunn Transportation team worked diligently throughout the remainder of the day to repair the body of the car and replace any damaged parts.

The Pennzoil Platinum & Associate Sponsored Barr-Nunn Transportation Ford was put to the test during qualifying on Saturday afternoon. O’Quinn, Jr. told his crew chief that the car was extremely loose during his qualifying run and he did not want to wreck it again. O’Quinn, Jr. qualifyied 40th for the USG Durock 300.

The race began at 3:00pm CST. O’Quinn, Jr. was able to move up a few spots during the first 10 laps although he communicated to his crew that the car was still loose, especially in and off the corners. Around lap 15 the No. 4 car got into the left rear of the No. 50 Pennzoil Platinum & Associate Sponsored Barr-Nunn Ford causing significant damage.

Crew Chief, Drew Blickensderfer, ordered O’Quinn, Jr. to pit on lap 17 for tires and fuel. He then told to pit again on the very next lap to make a fairly major wedge adjustment. O’Quinn, Jr. returned to the field in 39th position.

The No. 50 Pennzoil Platinum & Associate Sponsored Barr-Nunn Ford was still not up to par. On lap 40 O’Quinn, Jr. was passed by leader and teammate Carl Edwards. By the half way point O’Quinn, Jr. was two laps down and running 33rd.

The position of the No. 50 Pennzoil Platinum & Associate Sponsored Barr-Nunn Ford Fusion did not change much throughout the rest of the day. O’Quinn, Jr. finished still 31st.

“Well the race certainly didn’t go as we had hoped,” said O’Quinn, Jr. “We thought the car was going to be really good. It was little iffy though from where we wrecked in practice, but we really didn’t know what to expect starting the race. Starting off it was really free so we decided to change it. It just seemed like every time we went over five laps it would tighten up and loose the nose. We never really could get the car turning real well on longer runs and it really hurt us throughout the race. We’ve just got to go back and check this car over and make sure that nothing’s bent or anything. All in all I just really hate it for Pennzoil and the team. The guys did a great job putting the car back together and it just turned out to be a bad day for us.”

Danny O’Quinn, Jr. will compete next at New Hampshire International Speedway in the New England 200 next Saturday July 15th.
