Nationwide Express raises pay for new and veteran drivers & owner operators
May 28, 2005 -- Effective May 15, 2005, Nationwide Express implemented a new pay package that puts all drivers – from new CDL-A holders to seasoned company drivers and owner operators – on the road to better pay and better careers.
“We believe we have the best driving force on the road. That’s why Nationwide Express works to make sure our drivers are so satisfied with us that they want to stay,” says Kerry Knight, Director of Operations at Nationwide. “This new pay package is a result of that commitment. We worked to reduce operating costs and expenses to pass on that additional money to drivers.”
As part of the new package, new CDL-A holders would be eligible for training pay of $400 per week during their six-week training. Trainees begin work immediately pairing with one of Nationwide Express’s top professional drivers. After training, for the first six months, they earn 29¢ per mile; after six months, pay is raised to 30¢ per mile. At one year, pay is raised to 31¢ per mile with yearly raises thereafter to 40¢ per mile.
Owner operator pay has increased from 84¢ per mile loaded and empty to 86¢ per mile loaded/84¢ per mile empty with, the fuel discount raised from 1.5¢ per gallon to an average of 6¢ per gallon.
“In addition to great pay, both company drivers and owner operators benefit from our referral bonus program,” says Heather Kraemer-Stephens, Director of Human Resources. Nationwide Express is offering $400 for every company driver referred after their first dispatch and $500 for Owner Operators. After six months, the Nationwide driver receives another $200 for company driver referrals. Something new this year is the quarterly referral bonus drawing. For every referral, the Nationwide driver’s name is entered into a quarterly drawing for prizes such as a paid days off, tickets to the Talladega Speedway, and a Sirius Satellite radio to name a few.
