BIG G EXPRESS PUTS DRIVER COMFORT FIRST; INSTALLS APUs
Shelbyville, Tn. (April 3, 2007) -- Big G Express, headquartered in Shelbyville, Tn., is investing in driver comfort on the road by installing ThermoKing TriPac auxiliary power units in all of its equipment.
“We had several goals when we decided to start researching these units but at the top of the list was driver comfort and fuel cost savings,” says Tim Tipps, vice president of maintenance at Big G. “Several senior drivers tested different units for us and the TriPac was first in driver comfort and ease of use.”
The TriPac system takes over power needs when the engine is shut off, enabling Big G drivers to run televisions, microwaves, coffeemakers, air conditioning, heaters and more. “With these units in place, our drivers can have everything they need on the road without idling their engines,” he says. “Not only does it save fuel – and it saves a significant amount – it also means we’ll be in compliance with all state law regarding idle time since many states prohibit or will soon prohibit idling.”
Saving money on fuel costs was part of Big G’s decision since millions of dollars are spent monthly on diesel fuel. “We expect this investment to pay off quickly,” Tipps says. “It’s just a plus for us that we can save money while helping our drivers.”
Big G shares savings and profits with drivers through its bonus program. “You can see by actions such as this that Big G is run a little different. We’re a family, a team and we make sure everyone knows it,” he says.
