Owner Operator Joe Voyles Continues Life-Long Success at CRST Malone.
Birmingham, AL - Some people just seem to have figured out how to make a habit of succeeding. They’re good at everything they try, and it looks like it just comes easy for them. Joe Voyles is one of those people, and he will tell you that behind all that success is more than luck – there’s a lot of hard work as well, and some important decisions.
“I’ve accomplished a lot in my life,” says Voyles. “And it’s been a combination of hard work, luck and good decisions. CRST Malone is one example. An owner operator can’t count on hard work – or even hard work and luck – alone. Without the right carrier, it is almost impossible to succeed. Working with CRST Malone gives me a chance to succeed because I don’t have to compete with company trucks.”
Not that Voyles has ever been scared of competition. He quit high school at 16 to travel the country and work odd jobs – just trying to find himself. Then he landed at Murray State College in Kentucky, where he was a three-time champion in the poll vault. He also won championships as a coach, and some of his records still stand 40 years later. He’s also started his own college and owned several successful businesses.
“I’ve never been scared of fair, honest competition. I believe in that old ‘may the best man win’ philosophy,” adds Voyles. “But in the owner operator business, you can’t afford to compete with company trucks. It’s just not a level playing field. And you can’t be partners with a company that gives their best freight to their own trucks. I never have to worry about that at CRST Malone.”
“Mr. Voyles is an amazing man,” says Sherry Bass, Head of Capacity Development.
“ He is such a smart person and has been successful at so many things. It really makes a positive statement about CRST Malone that a guy like this – who would be welcomed at any company – chooses to partner with us.”
And CRST Malone works hard to keep the opportunity they offer the best around. “Our contractors are averaging $1.76 per loaded mile - $1.46 to the truck for all miles,” says Bass. She goes on to point out that CRST Malone contractors enjoy twice-weekly settlements and non-forced dispatch.
So after 25+ years of driving professionally, Voyles still loves the road. And he loves CRST Malone’s stability and the excellent freight. “You’d think the millions of miles I’ve driven would be enough,” says Voyles. “But when you’re with the right company, leaving is hard to do!”
Who knows what challenge is waiting for Joe Voyles around the next bend? Whatever it is, chances are that he will face it head-on with hard work, good common sense, and the best partner he can find … CRST Malone!
