Severson Named 2004 Minnesota Driver of the Year

ST. PAUL, MN - Larry Severson, a driver for the Eagan-based Dart Transit Company, was just announced as Minnesota's 2004 Driver of the Year by the Minnesota Trucking Association.

Larry has been driving since 1963, the last twenty-eight of which have been as an independent contractor with Dart Transit Company.

What makes Larry stand out as a Driver of the Year? He has an immaculate safety record! Dart Transit has awarded him 28 years of safety awards. He is also a member of Dart's Presidents Club, has received his 1-million mile award and has a 2 and 3-million mile awards pending.

Although he would be the last to talk about it, Larry has also been a roadside hero at least twice. In two separate accidents, Larry was the first on the scene and assisted the victims from their vehicles, giving assistance until medics arrived. In both cases, Larry gave his information and quietly left after making sure everyone was okay.

Presently, Larry hauls aluminum cans and production material between St. Paul and Eagan. He drives his own 1994 Peterbuilt 377 and a company 53' trailer. He resides with his wife, Linda, in Vadnais Heights. In his spare time he likes to fish and woodwork. He is also active with his church, assisting with the youth group fundraisers and mission trips.

Severson was selected from among a group of distinguished drivers by a team of judges comprised of the division administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, a captain from the Minnesota State Patrol and a director at the Minnesota Department of Transportation. He was chosen based upon his safe driving record, job performance and community service.
