Clay Millican to Open 2004 Season at NHRA K&N Filters Winternationals
For Release - February 17, 2004
Chicago - Clay Millican of Team 104+ Performance Additives/Lehman Racing will open his 2004 season at the NHRA K&N Filters Winternationals in Pomona, Calif., on February 19-22.
"I can't wait to get back out on the racetrack," said Millican, a native of Drummonds, Tenn. "I've been waiting all winter long, and I'm so excited that the new season is starting."
In last year's Winternationals, Millican qualified in second position with a then-career best elapsed time of 4.522. He defeated Jim Head and Doug Herbert on the way to his first of three semi-final appearances in 2003, where he lost to Larry Dixon.
Millican participated in two testing sessions this month, where he ran some of his quickest incremental times ever. At his most recent session in Tucson, Ariz. on February 13-15, he finished the weekend with the second best time of all Top Fuel drivers, with an elapsed time of 4.630 at 304.05 mph. Following his strong testing sessions, Millican says he is ready to get his first NHRA Top Fuel event win.
"The 104+ Performance Additives/Lehman Racing team made some changes to the car during the off season, and I definitely think we are ready for our first NHRA victory. Coming close to a win so many times has made me very hungry for it!" said Millican.
In Pomona, the team will unveil a newly designed one-piece carbon fiber body that was developed during the off-season with Brad Hadman Racecars. The new body should make the car lighter and stronger, and is the first of its kind seen in Top Fuel racing.
Millican, the 2001-2003 IHRA Top Fuel Champion, raced in 12 of the 23 NHRA races in 2003, and finished in 14th place in the NHRA POWERade points standings. He will race in approximately 10-12 NHRA races this season, along with his full IHRA schedule.
