Waupaca, WI: The students in Cherie Miller’s class in Markesan Wisconsin got a taste of summer from their Trucker Buddy, Brad Anderson. Brad, who lives in Arizona, sent them grapefruits, oranges and lemons that he grew in his own backyard! “My students were in awe that they could actually come off his tree and not just be purchased in a store,” said Mrs. Miller. “We had tasty treats for the next few days, as well as home made lemonade for the first time in our lives,” she added.
The students correspond with Trucker Buddy Brad each month, and look forward to the rocks, cactus and cotton they receive from the places he has traveled. “He sends post cards from his state with certain landmarks, flowers and the desert,” they wrote in a class letter, “when he comes to Wisconsin, he sometimes buys lunch for us or brings us snacks like pizza chips.”
Mrs. Miller’s is pleased that her special needs class has benefited from the interaction with Trucker Buddy Brad, “he has team taught with our speech language pathologist.” She added, “My students have been able to practice their writing skills, as well as their phone and conversation skills. Brad is an extremely caring individual who has made my students feel truly cared for and special.”
Brad is a company driver for Wal-mart’s private fleet and is based in Buckeye, Arizona. He has been chosen as the February 2003 Trucker Buddy driver of the month because of the ways he has enhanced his students’ learning experience. “This class has seen a different side of the trucking industry, and Brad¹s attention to them will never be forgotten,” said Ellen Voie, Trucker Buddy's Executive Director. Brad is one of over 4000 very special drivers who share their time with an elementary class. Wal-mart drivers correspond with 159 of the classes in the program.
There is always a need for more drivers to be assigned to
classes still waiting for Trucker Buddy drivers of
their own. The only criteria to be a Trucker Buddy
is to be a professional driver, willing to send a post card each
week or two to a designated class. Drivers can apply on line
at
www.truckerbuddy.org or by calling 1-800-MY BUDDY.
Brad will receive a personalized jacket, along with a check for
$300 to spend on Mrs. Miller’s class, and $200 in Trucker
Buddy merchandise, compliments of TMI-MultiMedia.
(www.tmi-multimedia.com) the advertising agency of choice for the
trucking industry. “We believe that this is a wonderful opportunity

professionals who work hard delivering goods to the entire nation,”
said Kelley Walkup, TMI-MultiMedia¹s Director of Marketing. The
class will also receive a CrossCountry USA game from Ingenuity
Works (www.ingenuityworks.com) which will help them learn more
about how goods are
delivered across the nation.
