What's in your cab? At U.S. Xpress, it's MobileMax™

Chattanooga, TN – U.S. Xpress is known throughout the transportation industry as a company that uses technology to improve both customer service and driver retention. The latest technology to aid U.S. Xpress in its mission is MobileMax™ from Aether Systems.

The folks at Aether Systems believe that drivers will love MobileMax™, which is essentially a user-friendly computer in the cab of the truck. Dispatchers will now be able to provide drivers with more timely and accurate information. And for drivers, time management equals money management.

Gary Kelley, Vice President of Recruiting at U.S. Xpress, says, “We pride ourselves on being cutting-edge so drivers have the best in-cab comforts available. MobileMax™ is a new tool for us to maximize the efficiency of drivers in our fleet. It will help us get them as many miles as they can legally run in a calendar year.”

U.S. Xpress is known for being an early adopter of technology. The company often gets a first look because vendors know U.S. Xpress is open to new technologies that benefit the company, its drivers and its customers. Kelley reports that “Since U.S. Xpress has made the decision to use MobileMax™,” he's seen “several other large carriers follow suit.”

Using MobileMax™ to manage the fleet is going to help U.S. Xpress continue to attract the best, most driver-friendly customers, which in turn assures better loads and better miles for drivers. The MobileMax™ plan calls for U.S. Xpress to be able to communicate with every truck and every driver no matter what the location or weather conditions.

MobileMax™ has the ability to use both satellite and land-based technology to offer U.S. Xpress drivers better coverage, faster message delivery, dispatch information, directions and instructions. The system is designed to keep the wheels turning, which every driver knows is the only way to keep the money rolling in.

Mr. Kelley is excited about the security MobileMax™ will bring to both his drivers and the company fleet. “One big advantage is that this will give us the ability to deploy both tethered and untethered trailer tracking. This is an added degree of protection.”

Kelley goes on to list a number of items that drivers with MobileMax™ in their cabs will no longer have to worry about:

  1. Per-message surcharges
  2. Being without directions
  3. Losing signal due to weather
  4. Calling in status

The reporting activities that take up a driver's time have become automated. Configuration changes, vehicle fault codes, arrival/departure notification, state line crossings and many other key fleet activities are handled through MobileMax™. The end result is that drivers are free to concentrate on getting to their destinations safely and on time. “Systems like this minimize administrative hassles for the men and women behind the wheel,” adds Kelley.

U.S. Xpress has always been a technology leader, bringing our drivers and owner operators the most innovative products and services on the market,” says Kelley. “If there is something out there that will enhance our drivers' ability to be successful, we are going to look into it.”

From a driver's point of view, it makes sense to work for a carrier that embraces the latest and greatest technology because it puts that company in a good position to retain and attract the best customers - the kind of customers that give you premium loads, steady miles and a dependable paycheck. As Kelley says, “The bottom line for all of us is miles.”

The U.S. Xpress fleet consists of more than 5,600 company-owned and independent contractor trucks running throughout the contiguous 48 states. If you are a company driver or independent contractor interested in one of the many fine opportunities available with U.S. Xpress, you can call them at 1-800-831-6858
