Waiting Game

Postby Nomad57 on Thu Aug 20, 2009 9:27 am

I have been getting the run around from my Swift recruiter. For the last 4 or 5 weeks she has been telling me that she is going to put me into orientation just as soon as there is a spot. Is this normal? I have told her that I am open to going to Greer, SC. or Atlanta. Is there that much of a back log of drivers in the pipeline? Werner told me they are not even hireing experienced drivers. Just students. I offered to go through thier school, but since I have a CDL, they're not interested.
Who else can I look at to get back on the road? Unemplyment is not enough to pay the bills.

You tell me. A recruiter says that my app is ok and I just need to be set up for orientation. I called again yesterday. Tamera says that she has not forgoten me and that she is waiting for an opening or cancellation to get me in. I reminded her that I was open to attending orientation in Atlanta,GA., or Greer,SC. because in our first conversation she said that going flatbed could possibly speed things up.
In 15 or more contacts with same recruiter, she has never given me any reason to believe that I wont be offered a job. Also per our first conversation all I needed to do was attend oriention, then go out with a trainer for X amout of days.
Like I said in my fist post, Werner told me flat out that weren't hiring people with a CDL, just trainees. I don't like it, but at least they didn't give me this kind of run around. That is the question. Is this normal? I've been visiting several forums and have not seen anything quite like this. For 5 weeks I've been getting this.

I did as you recommended and called Scott. Evidently, they really are sitting on a pool of qualified applicants for future openings. Their turnover rate must be slowing down a tad. You know the economy really has to suck for that to happen. I hope they enjoy the situation while it lasts." Nice recruiter....helpful,honest recruiter.....handsome/beautiful recruiter.....marvelous, wonderful recruiter"...LOL.
Thanks for the info, Wizard.

Sorry to hear that Scott.

Its not real impressive at any carrier right now. Although the "experts" beleive this downfall will start to diminish in the fourth quarter. I sure hope the so called "experts" get this right. It been a long hard year.

All the reason for everyone to get out and vote to keep the special interests out of our homes and offices.

American's need to take a stand and get this turned around for the people.

Enough preach....

hey, just read ur post. many companies are cutting back because of the economy, parking trucks, letting go of drivers that sit around and turn down loads. etc. I had a few questions if u are still looking to drive, I myself do driver for swift. so maybe I could help u out with some things if you still need help, for one, I know out of atlanta they are not having orientation every week like they used to, maybe 1 or 2 a month, but remember there is a big turnover rate and they still need drivers, Swift is a good company for drivers just getting started, very strick, if you are a wild driver u will not last long, I drove for swift for 1 year all 48 stated, now on a dedicated fleet, home everyday and make a steady 1000 appr a week, pretty good, but u do bust ur butt, but I do sleep in my own bed at home everyday. I heard swift is getting ready to park so more trucks in the near future, but keep calling, wish I could be more help. RC
