We're looking to improve and streamline this driver forum and we'd like feedback from the people who post here.

We'd like to keep the popular topics, delete the unused ones, and add any sections that people would like to post in. We have noticed that certain threads get more traffic than others and we'd like to simplify our topics to make this whole forum easier to read.

We want to add more general discussion areas, but also would like to know just how interested you are in certain topics. For instance, should we have movie or video game areas, jokes, stories, and current news events? Or, should we just stick to a serious Q & A about the trucking industry? Maybe there are options we haven't even considered.

We want to hear anything you have to say. Now's your chance to be heard! Just post your reply to this topic below and/ or vote in our survey.

Or, drop me an e-mail.

Thank you for your time,

I think it is fine as it is. I also visit and am a member of another organization that has a forum. As a topic is read, replied to and then forgotten, it drops out. I dont see a problem with that.

If anyone want other topic as a constant topic, maybe. Otherwise, its fine. I dont see that as a need to change anything anyway.

My 2 cents worth!

Thanks for the feedback. So far we've got a few posters indicating they like the forum the way it is, and a few e-mails stating they'd like some changes.

I guess we're still fifty-fifty.

Keep the suggestions coming.

I am a frequent visitor on this forum...actually it is the only one I go to. I enjoy reading the different views of people and like being able to go back and read up on what other people have said. I believe you have created a great site for people to state their opinions on whatever they want. I commend you for doing something for the trucking industry. Keep up the good work. I have gotten alot of good advice on here and have gotten alot of answers to questions that I never knew...like for instance..who knew that a dog was a tax write off if you had him in the truck with you? WOW!
God Bless!

Hello Owners(s) and Moderators,

I love this forum... I'm new here and have gained alot of useful info on various aspects of trucking, etc...

Tweaking is what i feel the forum needs...
- Keep up with answering posts...
- Add a few topics for daily life on the road...New drivers are curious to know...
- Add a Reference or FYI section... This would help a great deal... Cover all subjects in trucking like; Employment Issues, DAC Issues, DOT Issues, Log Book Issues, Employer Issues, Tax Issues, etc...

I strongly agree with getting company execs or recruiters involved along with professionals in various fields as well...

Surfing the web has brought me here and i have found this forum to be the largest going for truckers...I enjoy my visits and treasure the knowledge i gain from other's experiences...

Thankyou for being here,
Christie

8) I believe there are too many trucking websites trying to find ways to keep the traffic flowing thru their site's by placing jokes, games and distasteful images on every page rather than giving the truckers the chance for good Q and A. This site is the best for topics and replies, info and recruiting. In my oppinion, this is what a trucking website is for. Keep up the good work.

I would have to say that this is a very professional site. The admin and moderators do a great job. However I would like to see one thing changed. I think that to be able to post a message you should have to register first.

Nice board.

Postby WOP on Wed Oct 06, 2004 6:44 am

Howdy all,

I'm just getting started in the trucking industry. I think this is a great forum, and through it I found a trucking company whom I think would make an ideal employer. Also, I have a learned a few things just by reading comments made by others.

I think, though, that the board could be streamlined a little.
The following is just a suggested outline:

General Topics in Trucking

1. General Trucking Discussion
2. Business and Trucking
3. Tamina

Employment

1. Company Drivers
2. Looking for a Job?

Trucking Company Info

1. Express your positive thoughts
Sit down in this forum, pull up a chair, and let us know what things you like about the company you work for.

2. Trucking Company's by Name
This forum is for you to investigate the most well known trucking companies. Please be aware that some poster's have become disenchanted with the company they work for and may not give an accurate picture of the company.

Hours of Service

1. New and Old rules
This is the place where you can learn about the meaning of HOS (Hours of Service), and discuss the pro's and con's of current laws and how they affect the trucking industry.

New Forum

Postby The Wizard on Wed Oct 06, 2004 1:54 pm

I want to see a forum that helps drivers better themselves and keeps them up to speed on this ever changing industry.

I like a forum to report abusive companies. Horror stories are good, I think a lot can be learned from them. But then again you need a bar talk forum for those that augment their stories.

That's my 2 cents worth. I enjoy the forum as it is, of course everything can be improved. Hope this helps.

Re: New Forum

Postby WOP on Wed Oct 06, 2004 2:45 pm

I too would love to see a new forum that would help driver's to better themselves in every way, including:

1. Educating a newbie about the steps that should be taken to obtain a CDL.

2. Informing trucker's of educational opportunities that will help them improve reading, writing, math, and coping skills needed so they can become more effective at their jobs and customer relations, or other jobs related to their careers (or even their personal lives).

Although I opine that it is important to report abusive companies, I think too that people who report them should be held accountable for the truthfulness of stories related, just as a trucking company would be held accountable for any abuses. Otherwise, people who visit this board might not obtain an accurate picture of a company. And because of the possibility of allegations asserted as truth (without proof), a company's reputation could be damaged.

Sounds good to me! All we need to do is to get people to use it, and also convince them that it is not fair to correspond with someone in a slovenly manner (no capitalization, inappropriate punctuation, run on sentences, etc.).

I don't know how to write if it wasn't for run-on sentences. I always thought it was appropriate to use capitalization, WHENEVER YOU WERE YELLING AT SOMEONE! Just kiddin'.

I don't mind a missed comma or two, we all have a job to do as well as contribute to the forum. Soooooo, haste can sometimes get in the way of proper keyboarding. I still use the two finger peck approach, seems to work okay, today anyway.

As Jerry Springer would say, "Be good to each other".

The one thing that drives me crazy and causes me to lose interests is run on paragraphs. What I mean is when someone writes a post and the entire post (10-30 sentences) is one paragraph.

That is very difficult and boring to read.

Wasn't saying you Wizard. It is seen a lot at many message boards and it is annoying as heck. I am sure there is a lot of good points but after a sentence or two I am done reading them.

Just an update.

I appreciate all the feedback everyone, as there were some excellent suggestions here. We are looking into tweaking and streamlining these forums even more. We may even grab some more moderators who would be better at answering questions and promoting more in-depth discussion. WOP, I appreciate your proposed outline, by the way.

We recently added a Humor section that was seperate from the Everything Else section. We also added a new moderator to the forum (moderator2) so more time could be devoted to discussion and less policing.

Some of our considerations are to:

-Merge a few of the looking for job sections.
-Maybe create a Q & A section dedicated to answering questions and helping newbies.
-Create a graphic style more consistent with http://www.everytruckjob.com
- Enlist some newer more knowledgable moderators that can better advise and promote topics about the industry.
- Possibly make a General Discussion area about topics outside of trucking.
-Construct and host a page of Avatars that people can choose from and easily use.
- Easing up somewhat on the language rules. We've already removed some of the language filters.
- Look into the programming of the forum to see about getting a spell checker.

Overall, we want to make this forum easier to use and navigate. Again, we appreciate all of the feedback.

I'd like to see a drivers advocacy section to help out those that have a ligitimate grip and so drivers know who to turn too when the chips are against them.

That sounds pretty interesting, Wiz. What are more of the specifics on this? We'd be willing to try it out at least.

For example, would this be a section where a driver posted a legitimate complaint or gripe and advice was given to help them? Would you want to be that specific person or would you like it to be more general? ( or, would you want it to be a mixture of both? ) I've already seen you help a lot of people here so I'm confident that the section could work.

What would you want the section to be called and what would the description read like?

Let us know what you're thinking and we'll see if we can make it happen.

Without going into a whole lot of detail, I would simply call it Drivers Advocate.

This is where drivers with a legitimate complaint about an employer could get advice on how to address the problem tactfully as to achieve results.

Too often drivers have real issues with employers that never get resolved and eventually drivers quit and go to another company.

On the other hand carriers need to understand they are being watched. I think it all boils down to drivers knowing what the solutions are and what rights they have as employees.

What drives me to helping is, if we can get drivers to stay put at one company then we can essentially close the revolving door. Carriers are spending enormous amounts of resources funding the revolving door that actually limit the amount of driver’s compensation they can pay.

As you have observed Mr. Site Mod, I have seen drivers in the past that had legitimate issues that I was able to help out. I don't have to be the only one helping that would be a bit bold of me. I think other drivers have ways to solve problems as well that need to speak up so let’s not close the door on those possibilities either.

I do appreciate the serious look at it. Thanks

All right. We're going to try it out. I'll see about moving an existing thread or two that is appropriate in there to get the ball rolling. Hopefully, this will help some folks out there.
