Panhandle of fl is a good area for us. Unfortunatly right now we arent hiring students. We would need at least 6 mo exp to put you with a trainer. 3 months to go without a trainer. The good news is once you get that 3 months we will start you at 37 cpm with a penny raise after 6 months and another penny raise after 6 months so you will be making 39 after a year.

I work with JB HUNT. The want 3 months exp. ... if they are offering training plus a job take it! wait 6 months then you have a lot more choice in trucking.

JB Hunt is really strict on hiring. Background checks, drug tests, job history.. they leave nothing out... and you don't want to waste your time so if you have a bad driving record or worse....don't waste your OWN time by trying to apply cause they will find everything!

Their benefits are great and I was lucky to find a local route in my area. The name of the game is always experience like all industries. 3 years experience will open up a lot more flexibility and you will have companies calling you daily.

Good luck!

Thru my experience with JB's extensive pre-employment process;

they want no gap in work history. (ok if you weren't truck driving)

They allow 2 accidents per year but after that I think its grounds for termination or disqualified for employment.

They do multiple urine tests and they also do hair tests which goes back 90 days or more.

They pull a Sterling Report / background report / criminal report.

They expect you to be good a backing a 53' trailer between 2 trailers and drive a sleeper + 53' for a road tester.

If any of these things are a big issue, I wouldn't waste your time becuase the 3 day orientation is brutal and very boring. You are herded around with 100 other applicants.

I'm not a expert, just a new hire who saw a lot of people get disqualified for employment. If the recruiter told you 3 accidents in a year was OK, then pursue it because JB has some good paying accounts.

The common issue has also been that the recruiter promises lots of things and they aren't true. IE: told we work working 5 days a week. Its minimum 6 days. Told we were getting out own tractor. Its slip seat. Can the recruiter be wrong about your accident record...absolutely.

As everyone says in this industry - Cover Your ASS!! I would get it in writing or talk to an actual driver manager for the account your recruiter is talking about. There are a lot of different accounts and some are probally less strict cause they need more trucks filled.

Good luck. I'm trying to help and save you some time if possible.

Look at THE BIG PICTURE - these recruiters need to sell you a job...thats it ....then they push you off to someone else.

--> You need to be happy with your investment into this company. Research it first!

I would say 3 accidents wouldnt work....now if they were if they were just incidents instead of preventable accidents I might be able to make it work. One of those things that you just have to wait 6 months re-aply and let us run your stuff.

so my best bet would be going back to swift for a while then since we dont do hardly any backing and ill probably struggle with that and shifting since both of our trucks are automatic. After i go back with Swift for a while how much more experence do i need to get without acidents etc before i can get on with jb another 6 months or a year at least then ill have everything tied down again? thanks.

When our investigations dept says 6 months and reaply, it means 6 months driving for another company and the reaply. So yes, you should go somewhere.
So swift will rehire you? That tells me that the accidents were most likely recorded as incidents, otherwise Swift probably wouldnt rehire you. You might not be in bad of shape as you thought you were.

the first accident i got was in january i got lost in jersey city passed the place i was supposed to go to didnt have good signs and no where to turn a truck around anyways i was at a dead end street and it was a left turn only there was cars on both sides of the road i even called swift up and said look theres no way possible im going to be able to make the turns without hitting something and i dont want to back up either they didnt say much so i got the feeling that i should do something instead of complain about it so i tried making the turn i ended up scraping the trailer with the telephone pole and hit 2 parked cars yikes no ticket. 2nd one i was backing up in a tight spot and at teh place i was at ran overa few pieces of rebar rack harsh huh over 2 pieces of medal. but i understand i cant be running over things. the last one was another tight spot it was late at night at a truckstop and drivers kinda like to make there own place to park when they cant park there anywyas i foudn a spot and i was heading over there but there was a truck parked on the left side over by the rail and another truck i made the turn too short but i did get out and look cauze i couldnt see exactally where the back of the trailer was i was right on him but not touching him so i backed up pulled forward and i thought i made it cauze i didnt feel the trailer hit his truck and i was going not even 2 mph then and the guy came out and said i hit his truck so thats the scoop of what happend.

So you were the operations director of 3 companies. Why not name the companies? If they are successful companies and have a lot of drivers, I can guarantee that I have talked to drivers that would say they are the worst companies around.
Ive said this before. Being a recruiter I probably talk to more drivers about more companies than anyone else in the industry. I can assure you that there isnt a company out there where the MAJORITY of drivers arent happy. You talk to drivers on the CB and Message boards and they say things like SWIFT is the worst company out there. The truth, during my day when Im talking to 100s of drivers about their jobs, I see that even at Swift, more drivers are happy there than not.
The bigger the company, the more drivers you are going to hear complaining about it. Thats just simple math. Now think about this....how did those companies get so big and profitable? How do those companies have more veteran drivers (1, 2 & 3 million mile drivers) than any other companies? They didnt get that was by treating drivers badly.
You come on this thread and say some broad statement like "JB HUNT SUCKS, BECAUSE IM SOME SORT OF EXPERT AND I SAY SO"
My responce is. "JB HUNT DOESNT SUCK BECAUSE MY 401K, MY JB HUNT STOCK, MY PAYCHECK, THE PROFIT WE KEEP TURNING AND THE 1000'S OF 1, 2 & 3 MILLION MILE DRIVERS SAY SO."

I don't care about cred with the too cool truckers. J.B. pays me well, gets me home when I need to be, and supplies all safe, new and well maintained equipment.

What else you want?

Another chance!!

Postby cr64 on Tue May 29, 2007 9:45 am

:D Well all i can be is honest here, JB is giveing me another chance at driveing.I havent driven since Nov.06 and had 2 prev's in 06 w/ 1 non-prev. and 1 prev. in 05 w/ 2 non-prev. have driven for only 2 company's since 2001 have 3+yr's of varified exp. My MVR is clean, i have no reckless driveing or DUI's in 7 yrs'since ive had my CDL i have (1) one ticket(non-moveing) I live in FL. just 15min. from tampa.I have talk'd to alot of companys that will not hire this far down in FL.I for one am glad that JB is takeing /giveing me the chance to drive. i have heard alot of bad about JB from other drivers ...but also i have heard alot of good things about JB.I have ben told that i am getting hired for JB's (Tampa-south East) account and i will be home every weekend. which is cool cause i live here  I will continue to call the recruters untill i know for sure that i will be hired. and ALL MY Q'S will be answered before i get on the bus to Atlanta... so no mater what others say. i alsways go on my exp. with a company i listwen to what others have to say -dicard about 99% and take the rest with causion(bad spelling sorry)....So in the end if a company is willing to take a chance with me with my past exp. i am very willing to listen to what they have to offer !

CR64, I would be VERY leery of JB Hunt if I was you.
According to what you wrote, you've been involved in 6 incidents (total) in 2 years with 3 of them preventable. Three preventables in 2 years is alot of accidents as far as the insurance companies are concerned. Depending on the (claimed) damage, I don't think that JB will accept you, so watch out for what this recruiter is telling you.
If I was you, I would call JB's corporate offices and ask for the safety idiots... oops, I mean the Safety Dept and speak to someone there.
Or look around on the site here and find Sheepdancer's email or phone number (it's on his posts) and ask him (he is a JB recruiter). He will tell you straight up if you have a shot with JB.
Remember that a recruiter's job is to get as many people to orientation as possible. They get paid for whoever makes it. The more people you get there, the better chance you have of having some of your recruits making it through orientation.
Once you are there it is up to Safety, Medical, and the investigators to see if you stay or go home.
Going by what I saw people disqualified for at JB's orientation, unless things have changed, I would say that you will get sent home.
I won't even get into what I went through with JB over an accident I had in my own car on my time -- and I already was working for them!!!
Good Luck!

Let us know how it works out for you. There are actually drivers who say they like working for JB. No trucking company can work with a major part of their work-force being too new to the company. Wallyworld's advice is good for any company. It's your future and your DAC.

Work on your approach a little. Don't go looking for a job with the thought that g your glad someone is willing to take a chance on you.

Be more positive about yourself and your abilities. Tell them, I do a damned good job, I endeavor to be on time every time. I always come to work prepared and ready to go. I'm an asset to my employers.

Those are the things that get the marginal driver a job.
Do yourself a favor and do your country a favor, please watch http://zeitgeistmovie.com, then lets talk about it.

HAHA,u were right Wallyworld.. i did get the phone call.lastnight  and i did talk to them about my ontime record with my last 2 comp's. AND yes i am a asset to  ANY COMPANY but after my phone call i did contact my old companys to see if that did say what they supposedly said( even if they told me the truth) one said that JB never contacted them the other said > thats not what we told JB< Soooooooooo , no really sure who to beleave...but i do know whats on mt DAC.. cause every year.. i send off to get a copy and a copy of my MVR  I know that my driveing history is not that great.. but i know their are people with worse than mine who are driveing... and i feel that the rise in fuel and insurance played a role in their decision not to hire me....... :D but i will not give up.i like driveing to much  But agian thanks for the info !! 8)
